Installation Requirements for International Components

If you install the international features included in Microsoft Office 2000 Premium with MultiLanguage Pack, keep in mind the following installation requirements.

Office 2000 MultiLanguage Pack

The Office 2000 MultiLanguage Pack is included in Office 2000 Premium with MultiLanguage Pack. To install the MultiLanguage Pack, run Setup.exe from the MultiLanguage Pack CD-ROM. You can use the /a command-line option to create an administrative installation point for the MultiLanguage Pack on a network server.

Software prerequisites

The MultiLanguage Pack requires that other software be preinstalled on the user’s computer.

Office 2000   Must be installed before you install the MultiLanguage Pack.

Elevated privileges

You do not need elevated privileges to install the MultiLanguage Pack.

Reboot requirements

The MultiLanguage Pack does not require you to reboot the user's computer after installation.

Localized Excel add-ins

The MultiLanguage Pack includes several localized Excel add-ins. You can install these add-ins on a user's computer by copying the contents of the Extras\XLAddins folder on the MultiLanguage Pack CD-ROM to Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Library on the user's computer.

Software prerequisites

If you plan to install the localized add-ins, do not install English add-ins.

Elevated privileges

You do not need elevated privileges to install the Excel add-ins.

Reboot requirements

You do not need to reboot the computer after installing the Excel add-ins.

Localized Excel object library files

The MultiLanguage Pack contains localized Excel object libraries that you can use to translate nonEnglish Excel 95 or Excel 5.0 macros to English so that you can run them. You must install an object library for each language used in a macro.

To install the object libraries, run Instolb.exe in the Extras\95olbs folder on the MultiLanguage Pack CD-ROM.

Software prerequisites

No other software needs to be installed before you install the Excel object libraries.

Elevated privileges

You do not need elevated privileges to install the Excel object libraries.

Reboot requirements

You do not need to reboot the computer after installing the Excel object libraries.

Internet Explorer user interface languages

The Internet Explorer user interface language files allow you to change the language of the Internet Explorer 5 user interface. To install the files, run the IExpress file Ieuixx.exe, where xx is a two-letter language code from the Extras\Ie5\language folder on the MultiLanguage Pack CD-ROM.

Software prerequisites

Internet Explorer user interface language files require that other software be preinstalled on the user’s computer.

Internet Explorer 5   Must be installed on the computer before you install the user interface languages.

Elevated privileges

To install Internet Explorer user languages under Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, you must run Setup with elevated privileges.

Reboot requirements

You do not need to reboot the computer after installing Internet Explorer user interface languages.

Input Method Editors

Input Method Editors (IMES) for Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese allow users to type Asian characters regardless of the language of their operating system. The installation program that you run to install an IME depends on the language of the user’s operating system. You either run a self-extracting executable file located in the Extras\Ime\language\Global folder of the MultiLanguage Pack CD-ROM, or you run Setup.exe in the Extras\Ime\language\Regular folder.

You can run the Setup program for an IME quietly by using the /q command-line option with the Japanese version, or the /n command-line option with the Chinese versions.

Note   IME Setup does not support the /j command-line option to advertise an IME.

Localized editions of Office Setup install the IME associated with the language of the Office product. If you run Setup silently, Setup does not install the IME.

Tip   You can disable the installation of an IME in Office Setup by setting the property INSTALLIME to False on the Setup command line, in the Setup settings file, or in a transform (MST file).

Software prerequisites

No other software needs to be installed before you install the IMEs.

Elevated privileges

To install the Japanese and Chinese IMEs under Windows NT 4.0, you must run the installation program with elevated privileges.

Reboot requirements

The Japanese IME prompts you to reboot the computer after installation. You can use the /qn command-line option to suppress this prompt, just as you can with Office Setup.

The Chinese and Korean IMEs do not require you to reboot the computer after installation.

Microsoft Jet 4.0 user interface language files

The Microsoft Jet 4.0 user interface language files are dynamic-link library (DLL) files that allow you to change the Jet 4.0 user interface language. Users install the appropriate language files for the language they want to use.

To install the files, copy Msjint40.dll and Mswstr10.dll from the Extras\Jet\language folder on the MultiLanguage Pack CD-ROM to the user's Windows System folder.

Software prerequisites

No other software needs to be installed before you install the Jet 4.0 user interface files.

Elevated privileges

You do not need elevated privileges to install the Jet 4.0 user interface files.

Reboot requirements

You do not need to reboot the computer after installing the Jet 4.0 user interface files.

Outlook At Work fax patch

If your users are running a nonEnglish language version of Windows 95/98 and are using the Outlook At Work fax feature, they must install the localized patch file.

Note   If users are upgrading from Outlook 98, they do not need to install the patch.

To install the patch on the user’s computer, run Awfaxpch.exe from the Extras\AWFAXpat\language folder on the MultiLanguage Pack CD-ROM.

Software prerequisites

No other software needs to be installed before you install the Outlook At Work fax patch.

Elevated privileges

You do not need elevated privileges to install the Outlook At Work fax patch.

Reboot requirements

You do not need to reboot the computer after installing the Outlook At Work fax patch.

Outlook forms

If your organization uses 16-bit Electronic Forms Designer (EFD) forms and your users are running nonEnglish language versions of Windows 95/98 or Windows NT, then you must install the localized version of EFD. Using the localized version allows users to open 16-bit forms supported by Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange Client.

You can install the Microsoft Outlook for Windows/Electronic Forms Designer Runtime feature during Office Setup by changing its installation state from Not Available to another setting. However, because EFD Runtime does not change languages when you switch the language versions of Office, you can also install a localized version of EFD Runtime separately from Office.

Note   If users are upgrading from a previous version of Outlook, they do not need to install the localized EFD files.

To install a localized version of EFD Runtime, run Efd.exe from the \Extras\EFDSupp\language folder of the MultiLanguage Pack CD-ROM. You can use the /q command-line option to run the Setup program quietly.

Software prerequisites

No other software needs to be installed before you install EFD Runtime.

Elevated privileges

You do not need elevated privileges to install EFD Runtime.

Reboot requirements

You do not need to reboot the computer after installing EFD Runtime.
