Office 2000 Systems Requirements

Microsoft Office 2000 is available in five editions. Each edition installs a different set of Office applications, and each requires a different set of system requirements on users’ computers.

Microsoft Office 2000 Standard

Microsoft Office 2000 Standard includes the following applications:

• Microsoft Excel 2000
• Microsoft Outlook 2000
• Microsoft PowerPoint 2000
• Microsoft Word 2000

To use Microsoft Office 2000 Standard, users’ computers must meet the following requirements:

Processor   Pentium 75 MHz or higher processor

Operating system   Microsoft Windows 95/98, Microsoft Windows NT version 4.0, or Microsoft Windows 2000

Memory   For Windows 95/98, 16 MB of RAM for the operating system, plus an additional 4 MB of RAM for each application running simultaneously (8 MB for Microsoft Outlook).

For Windows NT Workstation version 4.0 or later, 32 MB of RAM for the operating system, plus an additional 4 MB of RAM for each application running simultaneously (8 MB for Outlook)

Available hard-disk space   189 MB for Microsoft Office 2000 Disc 1 (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word).

Collaboration   Microsoft Exchange Server required for certain advanced collaboration functionality in Outlook

Internet   Some Internet functionality may require Internet access and payment of a separate fee to a service provider, and local charges may apply.

Microsoft Office 2000 Small Business includes the following applications:

To use Microsoft Office 2000 Small Business, users’ computers must meet the following requirements:

Processor   Pentium 75 MHz or higher processor; Pentium 166 or higher required for PhotoDraw

Operating system   Microsoft Windows 95/98, Microsoft Windows NT version 4.0, or Microsoft Windows 2000

Memory   For Windows 95/98, 16 MB of RAM for the operating system, plus an additional 4 MB of RAM for each application running simultaneously (8 MB for Access, FrontPage, or Outlook; 16 MB for PhotoDraw).

For Windows NT Workstation version 4.0 or later, 32 MB of RAM for the operating system, plus an additional 4 MB of RAM for each application running simultaneously (8 MB for, Access, FrontPage, or Outlook; 16 MB for PhotoDraw)

Available hard-disk space   252 MB for Office Disc 1 (Access, Excel, FrontPage, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word); 174 MB for Office Disc 2 (Publisher and Small Business Tools); 100 MB for Office Disc 3 (PhotoDraw).

For optimal performance, an additional 100 MB of available hard-disk space is recommended for use by the Windows swap file.

Microsoft Office 2000 Developer includes the same applications as Microsoft Office 2000 Premium, plus the following applications and tools:

• Office 2000 Developer Tools
• MSDN Library
• Visual SourceSafe 6.0
• Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime Setup
• Microsoft Answer Wizard Builder
• Microsoft Agent Character Editor
• HTML Help Workshop

Microsoft Office 2000 Developer has the same system requirements as Microsoft Office 2000 Premium, with the exception of additional hard disk space requirements. Required hard disk space varies, depending on which tools and documentation files are installed

Minimum installation

A minimum installation consists of Office 2000 Developer Tools (MSDN Library not installed) has the following hard disk space requirements.

System files   30 MB

Program files   30 MB

MSDN Library

A minimum installation plus MSDN Library has the following hard disk space requirements.

System files   35 MB

Program files   90 MB

Maximum installation

A maximum installation, which includes all of the Office 2000 Developer applications and tools, has the following hard disk space requirements.

System files   45 MB

Program files   300 MB

Toolbox   You can view a list of all the files installed for each Office 2000 feature in an Excel workbook named Filelist.xls.
