Before You Upgrade to Office 2000

Strategies for Sharing Files with Other Applications

By installing the correct converters during Microsoft Office 2000 Setup, users of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint can import data and formatting from files saved in other file formats.

Importing data and formatting into Word

If users select the appropriate converters in the Word Office Setup, they can import data and formatting from files saved in the following formats:

  • Lotus 1-2-3 2.x – 4.0
  • Lotus Notes
  • Excel 2000, 98, and 2.x – 97
  • Microsoft FoxPro® 2.x/Borland dBASE IV, III, III+, and II
  • Microsoft Works 4.x and 3.0
  • Text with Layout
  • WordPerfect 6.x and 5.x

Importing data and formatting into Excel

If users select the appropriate converters in the Excel Office Setup, they can import data and formatting from files saved in the following formats:

  • Lotus 1-2-3
  • Microsoft Multiplan®
  • Works version 2.x (version 3.x or later can save worksheets in Excel)
  • Quattro Pro versions 1.0 and 5.0

Importing data and formatting into PowerPoint

If users select the appropriate converters in the PowerPoint Office Setup, they can import data and formatting from files saved in the following formats:

  • Harvard Graphics versions 3.0 and 2.3 (DOS)
  • Lotus Freelance version 4.0 (DOS)
  • Lotus Freelance for Windows versions 2.1 through 1.0

Note   Converters only import PowerPoint presentations; they do not export presentations to other file formats. However, PowerPoint 2000 users can save a presentation as text or graphics to mimic the export function. Then, Harvard Graphics and Lotus Freelance users can open the text or graphics file.
