Upgrading from Schedule+

When you upgrade to use the scheduling features in Microsoft Outlook 2002, users can continue to use the same basic scheduling features as Microsoft Schedule+ applications, plus benefit from improved functionality.

Microsoft Outlook 2002 includes all the features of Microsoft Schedule+ 7.x and Microsoft Schedule+ 1.0, including appointments, events, contacts, and tasks. Outlook also provides the following features that are not available in Schedule+:

  • Integrated e-mail functions with journal and note items

  • Additional views for calendar, contact, and task information

  • Advanced custom view capabilities

  • Task delegation

Except for changes in the user interface and other features, you can work with your calendar, contact, and task information in Outlook in the same way that you work with them in Schedule+. You can also freely exchange free/busy information with Schedule+ users. (Note that when Outlook 2002 and Schedule+ 1.0 share information, Outlook uses Schedule+ 7.x to read and interpret Schedule+ 1.0 data.) However, you cannot retain Schedule+ as your primary calendar while using Outlook 2002 for e-mail and other functions.

Importing a Schedule+ data file

To upgrade to Outlook 2002 from Schedule+, install Outlook 2002, and then import the Schedule+ data file. (Schedule+ is not removed from your computer.)

Note   Outlook uses the Schedule 7.x application to import the Schedule+ 1.0 CAL file. If Schedule+ 7.x is not installed on your computer, Outlook does not give you the option to import a Schedule+ 1.0 CAL file.

To import a Schedule+ 7.x SCD file or a Schedule+ 1.0 CAL file

  1. On the Outlook File menu, click Import and Export, and then click Import from Schedule+ or another program or file.

  2. In the Select file type to import from box, click Schedule+ 7.x or Schedule+ 1.0.

  3. In the File to import box, enter the SCD or CAL file name, or click Browse to find the file.

This dialog box also includes several options for dealing with entries in the data file that duplicate entries you already have in your Outlook Calendar, Contacts, or Tasks folders.

  4. To replace duplicate entries in your Outlook folder with Schedule+ entries, click Replace duplicates with items imported.

    – or –

To allow duplicate entries to be imported, click Allow duplicates to be created.

    – or –

To avoid importing duplicate entries, click Do not import duplicate items.

  5. If requested, enter the password for the schedule file.

  6. In The following actions will be performed box, select the items you want to import and their destination folders.

To change the destination folder for an item type, click Change Destination. To alter the way Schedule+ fields are imported into Outlook, click Map Custom Fields.

By default, Outlook imports Schedule+ information into the following Outlook folders:

  • Appointments and events are imported into the Calendar folder.

  • Contact data is imported into the Contacts folder.

  • Task data is imported into the Tasks folder.

The Schedule+ data file is not modified or deleted during the import process. You can import schedule files at any time after Outlook is installed using the Import and Export command (File menu).

Note   The Covey Seven Habits tool in Schedule+ 7.x is not included in Outlook. In addition, because its object model is very different, Outlook does not recognize Automation (formerly OLE Automation) interfaces in Schedule+ 7.x.
